Goal

The finish line. Everything works — now make it bulletproof and beautiful. This is the “last 10%” that other J5 builders say takes as long as the first 90%. Give it the full week.

Day-by-Day Tasks

DayTaskMethodNotes
1Conformal coat all PCBsSpray conformal coating (Amazon ~$20)Protect electronics from moisture. Remove from robot → spray → let dry 24hr → reinstall.
1-2Cast silicone gaskets3D-print molds, pour silicone (Amazon ~$25)Gaskets for every panel seam, electronics bay lid, battery compartment.
2Install IP-rated enclosures for exposed electronicsAmazon ~$40Any boards not inside the main chassis get their own sealed box.
2-3Swap remaining interior bolts to stainless steelMcMaster ~$30Exterior was already SS from Tier 2. Now interior matches. Full corrosion resistance.
3-5Full automotive paint jobStrip → sand → primer → base → metallic → chrome accents → 2K clear coat (~$100)Takes 3 days minimum — proper paint needs cure time between coats. Use multi-color 3D-printed parts as masking guides. Wear respirator for 2K clear.
5-6Final assembly — reinstall all painted/weatherproofed componentsClean bolt-upTake your time. Thread locker on every critical bolt. Torque to spec.
6Full calibrationPython script, servo configRecalibrate all 39+ servos with new arm structure + pneumatic neck. Update config file.
6-7Full system testAll systems simultaneouslyVoice, vision, drive, arms, tracks, stairs, 3D scanning, object grasping, navigation. Run through every capability.
7Final safety auditChecklistE-stop, pinch points, battery cutoff, RC override, obstacle avoidance, stall detection, pneumatic pressure relief, weather seals.
7RaptorX: Final full-body scanRaptorX, full-colorComplete digital twin of finished Tier 3 J5. Archive this — it’s your reference for all future maintenance and modifications.

Skills Practiced

Automotive painting (with 2K clear coat), weatherproofing, silicone casting, final calibration, comprehensive system testing.

Complete. All 200-310 hours of printing done across 10 weeks.
